Once Upon a Party Series | Wedding Season

It's spring, so naturally everyone is getting married. Two of my closest friends have entered into this as well, and it has been so fun to see them off into the married world. I recently had the opportunity to throw a bridal shower for my roommate and a bachelorette party for one of my best friends. Here were the results:

MCOM | Individual Presentations

This semester, I have learned a TON about writing and presenting in a business setting.
I really enjoyed preparing for and presenting my individual presentation project.
Public speaking is one of my favorite things in the entire world, and I loved being able to do it so much in this class. Although I was a little rusty on individual presentations, I was satisfied with my project.

I want to continue practicing public speaking by taking opportunities in a professional setting to apply what I have learned about presentations.

MCOM | The BIG Presentation

This week, we had our big consultation reports.
Penguin Posh decided that we would consult the company Nordstrom.
We found that because Nordstrom is such a long established and great company, it was hard to find complaints about them online. However, we appreciated being able to represent such a fantastic brand and it forced us to be creative with our project and presentation.

I believe that one of my team's biggest strengths is creativity in presentation and I have really enjoyed coming up with hooks for the audience, as well as catchy phrases throughout that help the audience to stay engaged.

I really enjoyed watching everyone else's presentations. From talking to classmates, it seemed like it was the first big presentation for many and I felt that as a class, there is great presentation talent.

I am glad that our project is done, and I thoroughly enjoyed the process.

MCOM | Remote Meeting

In preparation for our consultation presentation, the team decided to meet in person several times. However, one of the nights we were meeting, we had some previous commitments and had to leave mid-meeting.

We decided this would be the perfect opportunity to use video chat (google hangouts) to finish up.
We each did our work, while using google hangouts to keep each other on track.

Personally, I prefer working in person, but remote meetings are a great option when more convenient.

MCOM | Presentations

On Tuesday in MCOM, we were assigned the individual presentation project. Professor Middleton gave us a demonstration of how to give an effective presentation using a flip chart. Personally, I don't really like the idea of using a flip chart, but I definitely see how it could be helpful.
The week after next, we will be doing our individual presentations on a certain topic. My topic is Twitter for professional use. It will be interesting exploring Twitter a bit more than I have in the past and finding out what the most useful tools would be for businesses and in a professional setting.
We will give our consulting project presentations next week as groups and I am excited to get up again and represent with my team, Penguin Posh!
It will also be fun to see the other teams in action.

Kat's Meows | Music Update

My music definitely goes through cycles. There are some months where things pick up and I have tons of gigs and what seems like thousands of requests for recordings. There are also some months where I rarely have time to even pick up my guitar.

This month has been pretty steady with music. I won a gigg.com singing competition, which was exciting and definitely provided some social media exposure. I hope to partner with some other local musicians and play shows in the upcoming weeks and months head. I will be in Provo for the summer, so look out for gigs then, as well.

Here are two of my newest original songs:

MCOM | REACT

This evening, I had the opportunity to present with my team a chapter from the book. Our chapter was about writing proposals and solving problems. I really enjoyed presenting and found the feedback from the class to very helpful about presentations.

Two things well done:
- Connecting with the audience ("good vibe" was a comment on REACT)
- Confidence in topic

To work on:
- Finding a better place to bring hands

Group did well:
- Working together to connect with audience

Group can work on:
- Try to use filler words less

Overall, I had a blast preparing and presenting this project, and I hope that it was entertaining and worthwhile for my classmates.
